General Questions

What makes artisan soap different from regular soap?

Artisan soap is handcrafted soap made in small batches using traditional methods, such as cold process, and natural ingredients like essential oils and cocoa butter. This results in a higher quality product with luxurious textures and a range of beneficial properties for the skin.

What is pH balanced artisan soap and why should I switch to it?

pH balanced artisan soap is a type of handcrafted soap that is carefully formulated to match the natural pH level of the skin, which is typically around 8.5-10. This helps to maintain the skin's natural protective barrier, preventing dryness and irritation. By switching to pH balanced artisan soap, you can enjoy the benefits of gentle cleansing without disrupting the skin's delicate balance.

What are the advantages of using pH balanced artisan soap over commercial soaps?

Unlike many commercial soaps, pH balanced artisan soap does not contain harsh detergents or cheap synthetic fragrances. Instead, it is often enriched with nourishing ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil, and fragrance/essential oils, providing a more indulgent and skin-friendly cleansing experience.

Product Questions

How long do your soaps typically last?

Our soaps typically last 2-4 months, dependent on usage and care of the soap.  Using a soap dish to dry between uses extends the life.

How is it possible to make a soap that lasts longer than others?

Our soap lasts longer because we cure each bar for a minimum of 4 weeks, which allows the water to evaporate from the bar and creates a more crystalline structure. Less water means a harder, longer lasting, bar of soap.

What ingredients are used in your soaps?

Here at My Cluck Hut, we use plant-based oils, essential oils, fragrance oils, and mica for our handmade artisan soaps.

Do you use all natural fragrance oils?

We use a mixture of natural essential oils and fragrance oils. Our essential oils are completely natural and derived from herbs, flowers, and plants.  Our fragrance oils are phthalate free. Our fragrance oils are created with a mix of aroma chemicals and natural ingredients like essential oils, extracts, and resins.

Do your soaps contain any artificial fragrances?

Some of our soaps do have synthetic fragrances as synthetic fragrances cause fewer allergies.

Do your soaps contain any harsh chemicals?

No, our soaps are animal byproduct-free, palm oil-free, and have no harsh chemicals.

Are your soaps biodegradable?

Yes, our soaps are biodegradable.

Are your soaps cruelty-free and vegan?

Are your soaps organic?

Are your soaps tested on animals?

No, we do not test our soaps on animals.

Is mica safe for the skin?

Mica, although not a natural ingredient, is 100% safe for the skin and will not cause discoloration of the skin.

Why does my soap look a little different than the one on the website?

That’s the beauty of small batch artisan soap making. The ingredients are always the same, but variables such as heat, cold, and humidity can cause the colors to be less or more brilliant depending on when the soap was made.

I’m allergic to coconut, can I use soap made with coconut oil?

During the soap making process, specifically the cold process method, the coconut oil undergoes a process known as saponification. Saponification is a chemical reaction that occurs when fats or oils (in this case, coconut oil) come in contact with lye. This reaction transforms the oil into soap and glycerin. After saponification, the soap no longer contains coconut oil in its original form.  Instead, it contains the salts of the fatty acids originally present in the oil. Therefore, even if someone has an allergy to coconut oil, they can often use cold process soap made with coconut oil without experiencing an allergic reaction because the allergenic proteins in the oil are typically broken-down during saponification. Short answer, absolutely you can!

How is cold process soap beneficial for the skin?

Cold process soap is made by mixing oils and lye, which undergo a natural saponification process. This method preserves the natural properties of the ingredients, resulting in a gentle and moisturizing soap that is suitable for all skin types. This makes it a popular choice for those seeking a more natural soap option.

Can your soaps help with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, acne, or rosacea?

We cannot claim this as we are not a cosmetic company, but we have had customers report improvement after using our products.

Can you recommend a soap for dry or oily skin?
